Project Status Report
Woman To Woman Project/Afghanistan
Summer, 2002 -- Humanity International for Peace and Prosperity enjoyed a
successful launch of the Woman to Woman project, both in Omaha, Nebraska, where HIPP
is headquartered, and in Afghanistan where the project has already begun to take
root.
The response to initial fund-raising efforts was very in encouraging. Our goal was to raise $1000
in 4 days. With modest effort we were able to raise $1,600. Dr. Millatmal took that
money to Afghanistan where he initiated the projectg. With that initial contribution, we were
able to purchase 15 sewing machines and establish the first work center in a rural
part of Afghanistan in the village of Shullana, Chaparhar District, Nangarhar Province.
The project was warmly received by the community, evoking tremendous interest and a strong
demand for more machines. Interestingly, about 15 young girls aged 9-16 asked to be accepted
as observers to learn how to sew. The project is designed to allow women to come to the
village center every day to learn and to work. An elderly woman who knows how to sew and who
demonstrated leadership skills was hired as their supervisor, and an older man who is well
respected in the community was hired as their tailoring instructor. Mr. Mirajuddin, a leader
of the community volunteered to teach these girls and women some literacy classes as well.
The overwhelmingly positive response, both from the donors as well as the recipients,
motivates us strongly to develop this project further. We are very pleased with the results
thus far, and invite you to join us as an owner
of this exciting project.
